Description
Long, twice-baked slices with whole almonds visible in every cut.
Preite Forno Artigianale has baked in Casarano, in the Salento area of Puglia, since 1987. This dough brings together soft wheat flour, sugar, eggs, almonds and milk, lifted with baking powder and scented with lemon and vanilla. The almonds go in whole, so each slice shows a cross-section of nut.
For restaurants and chefs. Serve two or three slices with espresso at the end of a meal, or alongside a glass of Primitivo or a dessert wine for dipping. They also crumble well over gelato, semifreddo or a spoon of mascarpone cream. Kept in their bag, they need no handling before plating.
For specialty and Italian stores. Almond biscuits of this kind are one of the most familiar Italian biscuit styles abroad, so customers recognise them without explanation. The clear bag shows the almonds, which does much of the selling on its own. They pair naturally with coffee, dessert wine and gift baskets already on the shelf.
