Description
Menone, a single-vineyard Negroamaro from vines more than 80 years old, named after Plato’s dialogue.
The grapes come from one plot of 1.30 hectares of Apulian alberello in the Copertino countryside. After 15 days of maceration on the skins, the wine rests 36 months in underground concrete tanks and 12 months in bottle. It is bottled unfiltered, with natural decantation, and the producer recommends decanting. Marulli presents it as a meditation wine to follow year after year as it evolves. Serve at 18°C.
For restaurants and chefs. Menone belongs in the reserve section of a list, beside important roasts and the richer dishes of Italian cuisine. The producer’s pairings are stewed game, grilled meats and tasty aged cheeses, so a braised beef cheek or a cheese trolley both make sense. Being unfiltered, it is decanted at the table, which turns service into a moment for the guest. After the meal it can also be poured slowly by the glass as a meditation wine.
For specialty and Italian stores. This is a destination bottle for customers who follow Puglia reds. Old vines, a single vineyard and four years between tank and bottle give staff three facts to explain the price. The 2018 vintage won gold in Vinoway Wine Selection 2023 and a Corona in the Vini Buoni d’Italia guide. It fits gifting, cellar buyers and special occasions more than everyday rotation.
